Tax Credits Awarded For Veterans Home In Chicago Heights

The Housing Authority of Cook County project is one of 21 affordable housing plans approved by the state Friday.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL β€” A project that will house veterans in Chicago Heights was one of 21 that received state funding on Friday. The Illinois Housing Development Authority issued $26 million in federal low-income housing tax credits for the 21 projects, Gov. J.B. Pritzker's office said.

The project in Chicago Heights is the work of the Housing Authority of Cook County. It's planned to be a four-story apartment facility that will include 82 units for veterans and their families. The Chicago Heights Veterans Project development will be near a new Town Square that will include a plaza space for public events and gatherings, the state said.

β€œWith more and more families and seniors increasingly rent burdened and reeling from the impact of the pandemic, it is crucial that we continue to build and preserve affordable housing throughout Illinois to address this urgent need,” IHDA Executive Director Kristin Faust said.
