• 2 St. Louisans win national hero award for rescuing pilot from plane crash in Columbia, Illinois (ksdk.com) — Two St. Louis men are being nationally honored for rescuing a pilot after his small plane crashed upside down in a field near Sackman Field on Columbia’s west side last December. They sprinted across a farm field, pulled the trapped pilot from a burning cockpit, and helped save his life. Their actions have earned them the prestigious Carnegie Medal for Heroism and a financial grant.
