2 Rescued After Falling Through Ice Near Cary
The teen and adult planned to go ice fishing when they went through the ice on Lake Killarney Tuesday afternoon.
CARY, IL — Two people were rescued after falling through the ice near Cary on Tuesday afternoon.
The Cary Fire Protection District was called to the 6200 block of Londonderry Drive in unincorporated Cary at about 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday for reports of people calling out for help in Lake Killarney, according to a news release from the fire protection district.
When firefighters arrived, they saw two people about 50 to 75 feet from the shore who had fallen through the ice and were struggling to keep their heads above water. The two were planning to go ice fishing when they went through the ice.

One off-duty firefighter went into the water through the ice and rescued a teen. Fire crews arrived moments later and began coordinated rescue operations to help get an adult from the water. Both people were pulled from the water and taken to local hospital with minor injuries.
One off-duty firefighter was evaluated at the scene and did not require transport, fire officials said.
