Business

Why do you believe the teacher should be recognized or honored?

Mrs Theresa Miller inspires students to succeed! Mrs. Miller teaches life long skills learned in Marketing, business law and VEI classes to help the students to implement them in their life long learning in the community in which they live. One day while visiting her classroom, Mrs. Miller shared something her supervisor said needs to work on in and outside of class. She was told that she “needs to learn how to say no at times." See, my sister is as devoted to her students learning in and outside the classroom and no matter what if the student has concerns in understanding what their to learn, she will always make time to help her students. Mrs. Miller may have a lot on her plate of her own classroom work to prepare, plan and distribute her daily lessons but she takes on so much more beyond her normal teacher duties.

Mrs. Miller had been on many committees, she writes letters on behalf of the students, taking on other outside class activities such as detention duty, ticket sales at the football games, locker duties for the refs at the basketball games, sophomore class activities, dual credit classes to teach, writing referral letters, giving out business scholarships in which her students contribute by raising the money for these awards. The students learn so many skills taught by Mrs. Miller such as how to start up a business company, officers needed to run a successful business and what does it take to market a good or product.

Most importantly in the business world she teaches her students how to present, communicate to market their product in which their selling in the business world. Mrs. Miller has taken her students to learn at the County level at McHenry County College. Her students have competed out in New York. The students placed first place in many events. She has provided learning experiences as to what real cases present themselves in a court procedure hearing.

The students participate and play out roles that in which they participate in “mock trials.”Some of her students wish to be lawyers that had the experience in being part of a “mock trial”. Most importantly, Mrs. Miller teaches, inspires, and is made a positive impact of her students lives outside of the classroom. She will always find time to see her students perform in athletics, prom, musicals, graduations and be invited to their College graduations.

She may see her students in the community and always stop by and chat with them. Mrs. Miller is proud to see her students succeed and keeping in touch with them as they go on and continue their education. This is her last and final year teaching. As she has done before, she’s finishing the year out while visiting students in her work program at school on real jobs. I can say my sister has enjoyed being a business teacher throughout her career at Cary Grove high School in Cary, IL. She’s enjoyed teaching and being a proud CG student herself.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the teacher?

She would sacrifice and give up her personal time in which she knows would benefit the student. Her weakness as she said is “not being able to say no “ as she will always try to help when a coworker or student needs assistance.
