Crystal Lake South Grad Found Fatally Shot Remembered For 'Quick Wit, Exuberant Spirit'

Rachel Dumovich was found fatally shot in a car in Harvard on Oct. 6.

HARVARD, IL — A 29-year-old former Crystal Lake woman — who was found fatally shot in her car in Harvard in recent weeks — is being remembered for her quick wit, exuberant spirit and for bringing "energy and laughter to every room she entered."

Rachel Noel Dumovich, who graduated from Crystal Lake South High School in 2014, and her husband, Brandon Dumovich, 30, were both found dead at about 11:50 p.m. on October 6 in Harvard. A police officer made the discovery after going to check on their vehicle, which had its hazard lights on while parked in a northbound lane of Route 14, police said.

The McHenry County Coroner's Office has not yet released the causes of death for either Brandon or Rachel Dumovich. Patch.com has reached out to the coroner's office for more information but has not yet heard back.

Rachel Dumovich, who was born in Highland Park, and Brandon Dumovich were married less than a year ago and were just days shy of their first anniversary, according to a wedding planning website. The couple most recently lived in Sharon, Wisconsin.

While attending Crystal Lake South High School, Rachel Dumovich participated on the varsity cheerleading and track teams. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Business Administration, Cum Laude, from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee in 2018, consistently achieving dean’s list honors each semester, according to her obituary.

While in college, she also volunteered as a Big Sister and mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee.

"Known for her drive, ambition, and passion, Rachel was a natural connector, advocate, and loyal friend. She had a strong sense of empathy, compassion, social justice, and fair play, always championing those who needed a voice," according to her obituary. "With her exuberant spirit, quick wit, and unfiltered humor, she brought energy and laughter to every room she entered."

Most recently, she worked as a human resources manager for Climate Pros, LLC.
