D47 Opts For Early Dismissal Wednesday
A winter storm is expected to hit the Chicago area on Wednesday.
CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — District 47 schools will close early on Wednesday.
Students in kindergarten through fifth grade will be dismissed at 2 p.m. and students in grades sixth through eighth grade will be dismissed at 1 p.m., according to District 47. D47 officials made the call to dismiss classes early due to weather officials prediction that the afternoon and evening snowfall will be heaviest and will make the afternoon and evening commute very difficult.
All after-school and evening activities have been canceled except for Extended Time (E.T.), which will operate on the early release schedule.

"The decision was based on the projected weather forecast, including timing of the storm and rate of snowfall, which would negatively impact building and roadway conditions, and the ability to travel safely to and from school," according to D47. "We want to give families as much time as possible to prepare, understanding that this may affect schedules."
