Man Crushed To Death Under Vehicle In Workplace Incident: Police

WAUCONDA, IL — A 37-year-old man was crushed underneath a car in a fatal workplace incident in Lake County Tuesday morning.

The incident happened at about 8:50 a.m. at 398 W. Liberty Street, Suite D, in Wauconda, according to a news release from the Wauconda Police Department.

Authorities learned the vehicle was elevated roughly five feet off the ground on a lift when the rear of the vehicle came off a lift while the man was underneath, police said. The front end came off the lift and trapped the man underneath.

Emergency crews responded an lifted the vehicle off the man, who was extricated and pronounced dead at the scene.

"He was an employee of the business and had been working for them for about 7 to 8 years," Heather Cognac, the public information officer for the Wauconda Police Department, told Patch.

The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
