MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — Two brothers from Wisconsin have each been sentenced to nine years in prison for firing three rounds at a home in Harvard in March 2025, prosecutors said.
Miguel Mercardo, 26, and Roberto Mercado, 22, both of Walworth, Wisconsin, pleaded guilty to an aggravated discharge of a firearm charge before the sentence was handed down in McHenry County Circuit Court.
The charges stem from an incident at around 10 p.m. March 31, 2025, in the 1000 block of Dewey Street in Harvard, where shots were fired at home from a vehicle that did not have its lights on. Police located a vehicle matching the description minutes later and identified the driver and passenger as Miguel Mercardo and Roberto Mercado.

A search of the vehicle turned up several spent .22 caliber casings and several loose live .22 caliber rounds within the passenger area of the vehicle, according to a news release from the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office. Inside the glove box, officers located 240 additional live .22 caliber rounds as well as a fully loaded .22 caliber semi-automatic Beretta M9 .22 LR firearm.
Forensic testing found the spent shell casing from the street outside the residence was fired from the Beretta found in the vehicle. During the investigation, Miguel Mercado admitted to firing at least three rounds at the Harvard home, police said.
