Man Found Fatally Shot With Wife Had Celebrated Birthday 1 Day Before: Obituary

HARVARD, IL — A man who had just celebrated his 30th birthday and was days shy of celebrating his first wedding anniversary was found fatally shot in a car in Harvard last week.

Brandon Peter Dumovich, who was born in Barrington, and his wife, Rachel Dumovich, 29, were both found dead in their vehicle in Harvard at about 11:50 p.m. on Oct. 6 — which was just a day after Brandon's 30th birthday. A police officer made the discovery after going to check on their vehicle, which had its hazard lights on while parked in a northbound lane of Route 14, police said.

The McHenry County Coroner's Office has not yet released the causes of death for either Brandon or Rachel Dumovich. Patch.com has reached out to the coroner's office for more information, but has not yet heard back.

Rachel Dumovich and Brandon Dumovich got married less than a year ago and were just days shy of their first anniversary, according to a wedding planning website. The couple most recently lived in Sharon, Wisconsin.

Brandon was a petty officer in the United States Army and had "many interests and boundless energy." Some of those interests included: RC flying, boating, snowmobiling, fishing and hunting, according to his obituary.

He had an "infectious smile," "sharp sense of humor" and "had a way of lighting up any room."

"Brandon brought light and laughter into the lives of those around him from the very beginning," his obituary read. "He had an extraordinary ability to lift spirits and bring people together. Family was always at the heart of everything he did; it was his anchor and greatest source of pride."

A private memorial service for Brandon is being planned at a later date.
