Some McHenry County Schools Close Tuesday, Others In Session

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — Winter weather in the forecast Tuesday did not deter some schools from remaining in session while others, mainly in the western portion of McHenry County, opted to close.

On Monday night, several superintendents with suburban schools districts let parents know they'd be monitoring the weather and making a decision early Tuesday as to whether to cancel classes. Still others, including schools in Woodstock and Marengo, went ahead and called classes as early as Monday afternoon.

As of 5:30 a.m., here is a look at the schools that will be closed:

• Marian Central Catholic High School, 1001 McHenry Avenue in Woodstock, will be closed Tuesday and will switch to asynchronous learning for the day due to the weather, according to high school's website.
• District 36 schools in Wonder Lake
• McHenry School District 15 in McHenry
• District 12 schools in Johnsburg
• Marengo Community High School District 154 has switched to an eLearning Day due to the potential inclement weather, according to the high school's website.
• Zion Lutheran School in Marengo will be closed Tuesday.
• Elgin Community College in Elgin

Schools that announced they would remain open as of 5:30 a.m. Tuesday include:

• Cary District 26
• Fox River Grove District 3
• U-46 Schools in Elgin
• Community Unit School District 300 Schools

On Monday afternoon, weather officials said McHenry County could be among the Chicago-area counties hardest hit by the snowstorm, with 7 to 11 inches of snow accumulation possible. A winter storm warning will take effect at 8 p.m. Monday for McHenry County and will remain in effect through Tuesday night.
