Downtown Crystal Lake business owners have reported that some District 47 middle school students have been causing disturbances.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — The Crystal Lake Police Department is asking parents to talk to their children about respectful behavior while visiting downtown businesses after authorities received complaints regarding middle school students causing problems.

Police say the disturbances, including vandalism, stealing and foul language, have been reported after school on early release days. District 47 schools have an early release day on Wednesday, according to a post on the Crystal Lake Police Department Facebook page.

Police say they've received reports and heard concerns from business owners, visitors and residents regarding the students' behavior and illegal activities.

"Crystal Lake businesses welcome District 47 students after school, but they are expected to be respectful and responsible," according to the statement from police. "If your child is planning to go downtown with friends, please talk with them about this and stress the importance of respecting our local businesses, their customers, and our community."
