DARIEN, IL – Darien officials are considering rezoning a property on Plainfield Road to allow for 16 condos.

On Monday, the City Council is set to vote on permitting two eight-unit condo buildings at 1225 Plainfield Road. Now, the property is zoned for single-family houses.

The condos would be on the 1.4-acre site of an old dental office that the city razed last year because of code issues. The office was southeast of Plainfield and Lester Lane.

The developer, Atlantic Homes, is also proposing 16 two-car garages on the property.

Atlantic is the contract purchaser of the site. According to a Darien memo, the company's negotiations with the current owner have been challenging, adding complexity to the firm's efforts.

The proposed project is a repeat of condos built recently at the southwest corner of Ogden Avenue and Beau Bien Boulevard in Lisle, the memo said.
