Photo Of Wrong Porch In Darien Theft Case: Cops

A company refused to give a resident a refund for a wrongly delivered package, police said.

DARIEN, IL – Darien police released their latest weekly blotter Tuesday. Here is information from the police reports:

Theft

  • A Darien resident received an email stating that an item was delivered to the resident's address, with a photo that the company said showed proof of delivery. However, the photo was not of the resident's porch. The resident contacted the store, which refused to give a refund for the Apple iPad that was bought. The loss was $279. Darien police referred to the case as theft.

Retail theft

  • Savannah Smith, 30, of Westmont, was arrested about 6 p.m. Friday on a felony retail theft charge. An employee at Walmart, 2189 75th St., saw the woman failing to ring up items at the self-checkout counter and then walking away, police said. She was given a court date.

DUI

  • A 23-year-old Plainfield woman was arrested about 10:30 p.m. Sunday on charges of DUI, unlawful use of marijuana by a driver, driving 35 miles over the speed limit, transportation or possession of alcohol by a driver, having no license plate, and driving an uninsured car. Police were called to Speedway gas station, 8301 Lemont Road, about a person who tried to steal an item. An officer saw the 23-year-old woman speeding on 83rd Street from Lemont Road. It matched the description of the suspect's car, police said. The woman was released and given a court date.
