Accused Darien Walmart Shooter Held on $3 Million Bail

DARIEN, IL — The man accused of opening fire Dec. 3 inside a Walmart in Darien is charged with attempted first-degree murder. His bail was set Monday at $3 million.

Bradley I. Morris, 19 of the 1000 block of Palmer Street in Downers Grove, is also charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, all of which are felony charges, according to the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office.

A 10 percent or $300,000 bond is required for release.

Morris was arrested Dec. 5 in Chicago at a bus station with the help of the U.S. Marshals Service, according to the City of Darien and the sheriff’s office. He was trying to get on a bus headed for Florida.

Morris’ next court date is set for Jan. 4.

Darien police were called around 5:41 p.m. Dec. 3 to Walmart on 75th Street for reports of gunfire inside the store, Darien Police Chief Greg Thomas said.

An argument in a Subway restaurant inside the Walmart turned physical, and the gunman fired four shots, the sheriff’s office states. One person was injured by a gunshot wound in the back of his right shoulder, and the shooter was gone by the time police arrived.

The man who was shot was recovering at a hospital the next day. His injuries were not life threatening, and he is expected to make a full recovery.
