D99 Approves Traditional School Calendar for 2016-17

The Downers Grove Community High School District 99 School Board has approved a traditional calendar for the 2016-17 school year.

The first day of school at Downers Grove North and South High Schools will be Aug. 29, and the first semester will end after winter break on Jan. 20, 2017, according to the district.

The school board considered but ultimately rejected an early start calendar for the upcoming school year, which would mean the first semester would end before the winter holiday break. However, the early start calendar option is still on the table for the 2017-18 school year.

The school board asked district administration to conduct a survey with input from parents and students in elementary schools.

The administration is expected to present a drafted 2017-18 calendar May 2, according to the district.
