Darien Area Roads Being Improved By Downers Grove Township

Many of the streets were last upgraded more than 20 years ago, the township said.

DARIEN, IL – Downers Grove Township is improving 3.4 miles of roads this year, the highway commissioner said this week.

Many of the roads were last upgraded more than two decades ago.

The roads targeted for upgrades:

  • Middaugh Avenue (Pleasantdale), plus Meadow Lane, Dunham Road and Dunham Place
  • Washington Street (Farmingdale), plus Claremont Drive, Adams Street and Grant Street
  • Millbrook Drive (Mallard Landing), plus Helen Court, Millbrook Court, Cessna Lane and Charles Court
  • Hill Road (Highland Woods), plus Dystrup Road and Carpenter Street
  • Brookbank Road (Clarendon Heights), plus Fern Street, Allison Court and Marybeth Court
  • Cass Avenue (Emerald Ridge), from 91st Street to Bluff Road, plus Bluff Road (east-west section)

The improvements cost $1.1 million, with $850,000 from township tax dollars and $250,000 in state gas tax money.

"By resurfacing our oldest roads and combining local funds with state (motor fuel tax) dollars, we are protecting public assets, reducing future costs, and improving the quality of life in our neighborhoods," Highway Commissioner Tom Chlystek said in a news release.

In April, Chlystek, a former Darien alderman, won the township highway commissioner's race.

The township includes all or parts of Darien, Hinsdale, Clarendon Hills, Burr Ridge, Lemont and Downers Grove, among other towns.
