Darien House Fire Causes $75,000 in Damage

The fire left the house uninhabitable.

The Darien-Woodridge Fire District was called at 2:45 p.m. Oct. 8 to a house fire in the 7500 block of Grant Street in Darien.

A babysitter told the first unit to arrive that the fire was in the kitchen, and everyone had gotten out of the house safely, according to the fire district.

Firefighters had the blaze under control within 20 minutes. The fire left the house uninhabitable, with damage estimated at $75,000.

Investigators are focusing on the kitchen counter, where small appliances had been, though the fire remains under investigation.

Fire district units were at the scene of another alarm at the opposite end of its jurisdiction when the 2:45 p.m. call came in. Some units were diverted to Grant Street and mutual-aid from Westmont was also called.

During the firefight on Grant Street, several other emergencies were also called in to the district, including other fire alarms and and ambulance calls, which required more mutual-aid from other communities.

Darien-Woodridge was assisted by Tri-State, Pleasantview, Lemont, Oak Brook Terrace and Lisle-Woodridge Fire Districts, along with Argonne, Bolingbrook, Downers Grove, Lombard, LaGrange Park and Westmont Fire Departments. Some of those departments helped cover district fire stations and handled other emergency calls during the house fire.
