Darien Man Remains In Cook County Jail
Authorities identified the man killed in the fatal crash that resulted in the Darien man's arrest.

DARIEN, IL – A Darien man remains in the Cook County Jail nearly two weeks after he was arrested in a fatal crash, according to jail records.
Joseph Hathaway, 60, who lives in the 1400 block of 73rd Street, was charged with aggravated driving under the influence involving death and aggravated driving under the influence, state police said.
The victim was identified as Miguel A. Martinez-Alvarez, 38, of Niles, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

About 3 a.m. Sunday, a silver Acura, driven by Martinez-Alvarez, rear-ended a white Toyota taxi in the center lane on southbound I-55 near Interstate 294 in Indian Head Park, police said.
The Acura became disabled in the lane and was struck by a black Kia SUV, driven by Hathaway, police said.

Martinez-Alvarez was pronounced dead shortly afterward. Hathaway was taken to a nearby hospital, police said.
Patch contacted the state police Tuesday about whether the taxi driver was injured. A trooper said Thursday he was still trying to find the answer.
