DARIEN, IL – A Downers Grove man who was pointed out as stealing milk a day earlier ended up fleeing from Darien police this week, authorities said.

Timothy McGreal, 59, was arrested on two counts of aggravated battery to a police officer and counts of resisting a police officer, improper lighting, improper lane usage, violating the minimum speed requirement and failing to yield to an emergency vehicle, police said.

Shortly before midnight Monday, a clerk at Speedway gas station, 7502 Cass Ave., told an officer inside the store that McGreal, who had stolen milk the day before, was also there, police said.

McGreal paid for the stolen milk and then yelled at the employee, police said. He was asked to leave.

McGreal partially backed out of a parking space, then facing the officer, he turned on his bright lights, police said. He then was said to have revved his engine while leaving the parking lot. His taillights were not working.

The officer tried to stop McGreal, but the suspect refused to comply, police said. Tire deflation devices were successfully deployed at 73rd Street and Route 83, with McGreal coming to a stop.

The police department's news release did not indicate how McGreal had battered the officer. Patch filed a records request for the police report.

Police said McGreal was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
