Darien Residents Older Than Other Suburbanites?
After a debate over apartments, Patch looked at the median ages of Darien and its neighbors.

DARIEN, IL – Darien's residents are older than those in most other towns in the area.
The age of residents became a subject of debate during Monday's City Council meeting, namely, whether young people want to live in town. Aldermen were considering approving a planned apartment complex.
One woman said it was a "joke" that aldermen thought young people wanted to move to town.

As of 2023, Darien's median age was 44.8, up from 40.4 in 2000.
The median ages in Hinsdale, Clarendon Hills, Elmhurst, La Grange and Western Springs are all about three years lower than Darien's.

Burr Ridge's median age, however, is considerably higher, at 58.1. That's up from 43.1 in 2000.
Hinsdale's median age was 41.9 in 2023, compared with 38.9 at the beginning of the 21st century.
Chicago is now at 36.4.
