Darien Theft Suspect Threatens Store Worker: Cops

In another case, a Darien man was charged with two counts of domestic battery, police said.

DARIEN, IL – In the last few days, Darien police handled cases involving retail theft, domestic battery, a hit-and-run crash and DUI. Here is information from the latest Darien police reports:

Retail theft

  • A retail theft occurred about 5:30 p.m. Friday at Walmart, 2189 75th St. A security employee asked the suspect for a receipt, but the man continued walking to the parking lot and threatened to hit the employee if he were followed. The loss was estimated at $290.

  • A 41-year-old Darien man who lives in the 8000 block of Sawyer Road was arrested about 4:30 p.m. Friday at his house on two counts of domestic battery. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Hit-and-run

  • A 36-year-old Darien woman who lives in the 2300 block of Sokol Court was charged June 5 with failing to give information after hitting an unattended car. About 1 p.m. that day, surveillance footage at Walmart, 2189 75th St., showed the woman's car striking another car in the parking lot, causing it to move from its spot. The rear driver-side bumper and taillight were damaged. The woman was released and given a date to appear in court.

DUI

  • A 35-year-old Downers Grove man was arrested about 1 a.m. Saturday on charges of DUI, speeding, driving with a suspended license, having an open alcohol container in a car, reckless driving and driving an uninsured car. Police said an officer saw the man speeding in the 7800 block of Lemont Road. The man was released and given a date to appear in court.
