It's a Small World at Eisenhower Winter Band Concert

The show celebrated holidays across the globe with "Music from around the World."

Audience members traveled from Siberia to Africa and back again Wednesday night at Winter Band Concert.

Moms, dads, grandpas and grandmas packed the gym bleachers to hear the concert, jazz and symphonic bands perform "Music from Around the World."

Before each selection, a group of students explained how people celebrate the holidays in each of the countries featured in the songs. The kids prepared posters and did their own research to put together the presentations.

Nearly a dozen members of the jazz band performed solos during the song "St. Louis Blues"—no small feat for a young performer, as band director Maria Pahati made clear.

"A lot of these students have never gotten up and played solo in front of a group before," she said. "It takes a lot of guts to get up here and play any type of solo."
