The single most pressing issue facing the city is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it.

Keeping it running properly. The city of Darien is a beautiful city, and we have many residents that have lived here for over 40 years and many new residents. The constituents of Darien need to be informed about things happening in city hall regarding our city and how monies will be spent. Darien has a great Police force and outstanding first responders we need to make sure they are compensated properly. Our elected officials need to take more interest in the city and their wards. I have walked most of the first ward and have spoken to many people. These people have shared many concerns with me and I told them win or lose I will get these issues taken care of or to the proper people to get the job done. Our elected officials have to be there for the people all the time not just when they face opposition at election time.

What are the critical differences between you and the other candidate seeking this post?

Due to the fact that I have never met Alderman Schauer I can only go by what I have read about him and what a few people in the ward have said about him as I campaign. We are two different people: I am a blue collar union worker and he is a banker. All I can say is that due to no opposition in past elections he seems to have forgotten about his constituents I intend to do my best to meet with as many of our first ward residents as possible. It is time for a change and in past elections when there was a challenger the people took charge and voted incumbents out.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

I was a trainer at my job and successfully helped train employees to make a great workforce. By my honor and integrity I have been hand picked to serve in many organizations. I get things done and have great communication abilities and am not scared to go the extra mile. My goal is to be available for all the people of the ward. I am proud of the accomplishment to get on the ballot. It was not an easy task as a newcomer. I did it with the help of my friends and family.

Are the city government's taxes too high, too low or just about right? Explain.

I believe that the taxes teeter between just about right and a little high. Ever since covid things are not the same, prices have risen and wages have not so much. Darien has much to offer with the following excellent schools, low crime, and city services.

What is your view of the city's maintenance of its infrastructure?

The city is on its A game with maintenance and infrastructure for the most part. There are a few issues regarding speed bumps and yield signs versus stop signs that need to be addressed.

What is your assessment of the police department's performance?

The Police department is fantastic they are doing a great job keeping Darien a safe place to live, work, and or visit. I really like the fact that they are on the scene when there is an accident or a vehicle break down and they help out.

Do you support the city's approach to recreational marijuana? Why or why not?

I do not support recreational marijuana. Since it became legal more people and indulging while driving and this is a safety issue plus it sends the wrong message to our youth. I do not see a marijuana dispensary as a profitable source of revenue for the city of Darien.

Should the mayor and aldermen take political contributions from city contractors or those with zoning or other matters before the council? Why or why not?

NO There should be no political contributions from city contractors or anyone doing business with the city. This cheapens our values and the integrity of the city. If someone needs to pay to play then they need to go to a casino. Our city should only hire the best contractors to do the job and get the job done right. If you are good, you do not need to try to influence city government.

Is there any reason you would not serve your full term of office, other than those of health or family?

No I plan to serve the full four year term and maybe another one after that.

What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

You can talk to me I am very easy going and as your Alderman I pledge to listen to the residents concerns and act on them. It is time for a change. Please come out and vote on Tuesday April 1 Vote for John Mayrens Change is good
