DARIEN, IL – Darien has demolished the old dental office that was considered an eyesore and a nuisance. The business shut down more than a decade ago.

The office was at 1225 Plainfield Road, about a block west of Plainfield and Cass Avenue.

The razing and restoration occurred in November, with the city placing a lien on the property with the county, city official Dan Gombac told Patch in an email Monday.

Last April, Darien police found the building had broken windows and was unsecured, according to a city memo.

The interior was reported to be in disrepair and the basement had several feet of standing water. Officials said they found plenty of code violations.

In June, the city said it was ready to sue the owner over the "dilapidated" building. The city did so, but the owner failed to appear in court.

The City Council voted in October to tear down the building.

The structure was built as a house in the 1950s, possibly earlier, a city memo said. It became a dental office in the 1980s.
