Mysterious Darien Banging Noise Solved
Residents reported hearing the sound after a project, an official said.

DARIEN, IL – A mysterious banging sound in a Darien neighborhood was solved recently, a city official said Monday
After a water main break was fixed last month, a resident reported hearing the noise in the area of Cherokee Drive and Darien Lane, said Dan Gombac, the city's municipal services director.
City workers spoke with a couple of other residents, who heard the same thing. But the workers couldn't figure it out at the time.

"It was going on around the entire quadrant," Gombac told the City Council. "It got to the point where you could hear this banging sound outside."
The city then checked all the valves and found that a disc in one of them had fallen off, causing the banging, he said.

"The vibration was going out all over the place, an anomaly," Gombac said. "I've never seen this in 42 years."
The noise went away after the city replaced the valve, he said.
