New Taxes in Darien Passed to Help Capital Projects Shortfall

Taxes will be placed on gas, food and beverages beginning May 1.

Darien, IL - Darien aldermen have approved new taxes on gas, food and beverages in the city, in an effort to balance a shortfall in the capital projects budget.

Gas will be taxed two cents per gallon as of May 1, and local food and beverages will be taxed 1.25 percent, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Only one alderman voted against the new taxes.
