Police Still Searching for Darien Walmart Shooter

Shots were fired Thursday evening after an argument near a Subway restaurant inside the store.


Police continue to look for the gunman who opened fire in the 75th Street Walmart in Darien after an argument with another shopper, Darien Police said Friday morning.

Darien police were called around 5:41 p.m. to Walmart for reports of shots fired inside the store, Darien Police Chief Greg Thomas said in a Thursday night news conference.

A woman told WBBM 780/105.9FM she saw the two men yelling at each other, and she moved a couple aisles away before she heard the shots. Thomas said the argument that lead to the shooting took place near a Subway restaurant inside the store.

Officers found a man with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the shoulder, and the Westmont Fire Department took him to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

The shooter fled the scene by the time police arrived.

Darien police cleared the store with help from officers from surrounding jurisdictions, and no one else reported injuries. Police interviewed witnesses and processed the crime scene Thursday night.
