Residents Can Get a Library Card--and a Deal

Has getting a library card been on your to-do list for awhile?

Just in time for September’s National Library Card Sign-up Month,  and several area businesses are partnering to offer the community incentives to get a card.

Through the “Got a card? Get a bargain!” campaign, individuals who present their library card to more than 50 area businesses will receive some kind of promotion or discount with their purchase during September.

“Businesses range from hotdog stands to financial planners,” said Cris Cigler, marketing coordinator for IPPL. “It’s a pretty comprehensive list. We’ve gotten a great response from our business community.”

The is one business that is participating.

“We always want to strengthen our relationship with Indian Prairie,” said employee Amanda Secrist. “We’re both sort of advertising for each other.”

Proprietors Harry Spataro and his wife, Pat, of , a sports apparel store, also have partnered with the library.

“It’s a nice thing for everybody,” Harry Spataro said. “Those libraries are fabulous for the amount of things you can get in there that you don’t have to pay for, just be a member.”

Cigler lauds both the Darien and Willowbrook chambers of commerce for being active partners in the effort.

“Both pitched the idea to their chamber members repeatedly and encouraged them to sign up,” she said.

Library officials hope the community takes advantage of the promotion.

“It’s the first time we’re doing something like this,” Cigler said. “It will be very interesting to see how it plays out.”
