Walmart Shooting in Darien Prompted by Argument Leaves One Injured: UPDATE

Police are still searching for the shooter and investigating the crime scene.

Darien Police Chief Greg Thomas said in a news conference Thursday night that one person was injured by a non-life threatening gunshot wound in his arm and torso, and he was taken to a local hospital.

Thomas said police are still looking for the shooter.

He said Darien police and members of surrounding agencies were called to the Walmart in Darien around 5:41 p.m. for reports of shots fired inside the store. When they arrived, the suspect had fled the scene.

Thomas said there are many witnesses to interview, and police have to process the crime scene. He believes the motive may have been related to “some type of argument” near the Subway restaurant inside the Walmart.

Police are responding to the scene of a shooting Thursday evening at a Walmart in Darien.

Police are ”actively searching for the shooter,” according to the Darien-Woodridge Fire Protection District.

Multiple shots have been fired, and people are asked to avoid the area around the Darien Town Center shopping mall.

The Darien-Woodridge Fire Protection District and ambulances are attending to people at the scene on 75th Street.

Darien Police and the fire protection district responded to the shooting report around 5:45 p.m., according to the Arlington Cardinal.

ABC7 Chicago reports one person was shot and injured in the incident, though NBC Chicago says multiple people were hurt in the shooting.

One injured person was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, WGN reports.

A Walmart employee told CBS Chicago an argument broke out between two people at a Subway restaurant in the store, and one person reportedly pulled out a gun and shot the other person.

Police were not immediately available for comment.
