VIDEO: Lace Kids Serenade Shoppers at Yorktown Mall
The children sang holiday favorites both old and new.
Shoppers at Yorktown Mall in Lombard were treated to a super dose of holiday cheer Wednesday as 35 students from in Darien sang a selection of merry tunes.
Parents, grandparents and passersby all stopped to take in the show, which featured festive favorites both classic and contemporary.
Chorus director Andrea Behegan Gough said the mall outing was a great opportunity for others to see the school's talent. The performers at Wednesday's show were in fourth and fifth grade.

"This is what the holiday season's all about," Gough said. "It's a way to bring joy into holiday shoppers' afternoon."
While the chorus sang Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, some audience members started to sing along. The students showed off their newly acquired scatting skills in We Wish You a Swinging Holiday, a song selection sprung from their recent jazz studies.

Fifth grader Sammi said she was glad to have the opportunity to sing Swinging, her favorite of the group's repertoire.
"This is my second year singing here, so I was not nervous," she said. "I was more excited than nervous."
"Me too!" her friend Amber piped in.
The confidence was well founded, as audience members said the chorus charmed them.
"I thought they did a really good job," said Christina Aver, whose daughter Shaylinn sang with the chorus. Aver said Shaylinn was very excited to perform because she hoped a TV crew might be there and help her become famous.
Well, it's not TV, but Patch filmed portions of the show and compiled a few highlights in the video below.
