Decatur is a place like no other. And whether you grew up here, recently moved to the area or you’re just an occasional visitor, you know that Decatur has its own special traditions and history that make it so unique.
A few things to know:
- Decatur was named after the famous American naval hero Stephen Decatur. The city played a crucial role in the Civil War as a supply depot and hospital center for wounded soldiers.
- One of the most unusual and interesting places in Decatur is the Hieronymus Mueller Museum. Visitors can learn about the history of the Mueller Company, a leading manufacturer of water distribution products.
- If you're looking for something fun to do in Decatur, check out the Scovill Zoo. It features over 500 animals, including rare and endangered species from around the world.
