12-Year-Old Sews Caps For Nurses: Deerfield Hero

DEERFIELD, IL — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented times. Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these everyday heroes.

What does the nominee do for work?:
Sewing Nursing caps

Why do you believe the nominee should be recognized or honored?
My daughter (12 years old) has been using her free time to sew nursing caps. So far she has donated about 50 caps and still sewing. Her uncle (my brother) is a nurse working for the Emergency COVID-19 Response in Brooklyn, N.Y. This was the inspiration for the project but we have now been getting requests for her to make more. She is using old sheets and t-shirts and donating everything. She has also set up a GoFundMe to raise money for health care workers.

What’s one thing you want everyone to know about your hero?:
She is kind and trying to do positive things for others during this difficult time.
