2 Deerfield Runners To Compete In 2024 Boston Marathon

DEERFIELD, IL — This year's Boston Marathon will have some local flavor. Two Deerfield runners will be part of the 128th edition of the prestigious race. The Boston Marathon takes place on Patriots' Day, which is Monday in Massachusetts.

Deerfield residents Robert Cooper and Lauren Ettin will join a field of 30,000 athletes who will compete in this year's Boston Marathon, which covers 26.2 miles from Hopkinton to Boston, according to the race's website. The Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annually run marathon.

According to race officials, 30,239 participants entered last year's, including 17,272 men, 12,940 women and the first-ever designation of non-binary entrants with 27. All 50 states were represented, as well as 106 countries.
