DEERFIELD, IL — The Goddard School of Deerfield, 475 Lake Cook Road, will be opening its doors starting May 4 for essential workers, according to officials. The private preschool serves the villages of Deerfield, Northbrook, Highland Park and surrounding areas.

The school will open through an emergency license issued by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. Child care centers were able to apply to become emergency child care centers starting March 21 to continue to serve the children of essential workers, according to the Illinois Governor's Office of Early Childhood Development. The office recommends that centers serve no more than 50 children per center with a maximum group size of 10 children per classroom.

As long as the public health emergency stemming from the coronavirus pandemic is in effect, licensed and licensed-exempt child care homes may serve up to six children of essential workers. Certain license-exempt centers may also serve up to 10 children of essential workers without needing to apply for the emergency license.
