DEERFIELD, IL — A pair of Deerfield mothers are reaching out to high school seniors in the area to participate in a campaign encouraging others to stay at home through the coronavirus pandemic. Seniors are being asked to submit a short video asking their peers to stay at home so they, too, won't miss out on milestone moments such as spring musicals, athletic events, prom and graduation ceremonies.

The idea was conceived by Dana Weiss and Gayle Byck. Submitted videos will be spliced together and sent throughout the Deerfield community with the hope that the effort will go viral and other communities can perform their own video projects, according to Weiss.

"Our seniors have lost so much this year," Weiss said. "We want to honor them and encourage other kids in the area and honoring our 2020 seniors with a campaign to encourage others to stay home.

Videos can be submitted to SeniorVideos2020@gmail.com and should include a note about what high school they attend. Videos should be approximately 15 seconds and include a student saying the phrase, "I want you to stay home so you can," followed by an event they're most disappointed to be missing out on.

Students of all school districts are welcome to participate in this initiative.
