D109 Policy Would Nix Party Food and Limit Snacks

No more of mom’s cupcakes or dad’s brownies at school parties at District 109 if a new food policy is implemented by the board, according to an article in the Deerfield Review.

A newly developed food policy will go before the board next week. If approved, it would mean the end of food at any school party and would restrict daily snacks significantly. In elementary school, kids could have only fruits and veggies. In middle school, cheese and yogurt would also be allowed.

The policy is a reaction to the growing number of students with severe food allergies and was written to ensure the safety of those kids, the article says.
