DEERFIELD, IL — Did your child collect way too much candy on Halloween and you're looking to get rid of some? The Deerfield Police Department can assist in getting it out of the house, while also helping some children that could use a little sweetness.

Through Friday, unopened bags of candy can be dropped off at the Deerfield Police Department lobby, 850 Waukegan Road. All donations will go to Operation North Pole, a non-profit based in Des Plaines that works with families with children battling life-threatening illness.

Founded in 2009, ONP is a volunteer-based public charity. The candy collected will be used to stock an upcoming event, where the children will get a chance to celebrate with Santa and other holiday-themed activities.
