DHS ACT Scores Improve

Students who graduated from Deerfield High School in 2014 earned an ACT Composite score of 26.9, an increase over last year’s composite score of 26.5. The Class of 2014 also posted increases from the 2013 scores in English, Reading, Science and Mathematics.

“These continued improvements are a testament to the outstanding teaching and support staff who work with our students each day, and a reflection of the investment our students and families have made in education,” said Superintendent Dr. George Fornero.

Deerfield High School’s composite score of 26.9 is well above the state (20.7) and national (21.0) averages. Additionally, eight District 113 students were among the 0.1 percent of test-takers to earn the top score of 36 on the ACT.

In 2002 the state began requiring all juniors to take the ACT, and last year for the first time the reported ACT scores were inclusive of those students who took the test with accommodations, as well as those who took the standard timed test. As a result, DHS’s 2014 ACT results are comparable only with the results from 2013.

For District 113, the biggest change is the number of scores reported. For the years 2009-2012, the District reported scores for an annual average of 793 students. For 2013, the District reported scores for 908 students, an increase of 14.5 percent. In 2014, the District reported scores for 940 students.
