Early Voting Continues at Brisk Pace

More than 2,000 Deerfield residents have cast their ballots for the Nov. 6 general election during early voting at the West Deerfield Township Office, according to Lake County Clerk Willard Helander.

As of early Monday afternoon, 2,147 people voted, according to Helander. In Lake County 40,460 people cast ballots since early voting began Oct. 22.

Early voting will continue at the West Deerfield Township Office from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

In addition to early voting, Helander said her office has been busy with voting by mail which no longer requires a person to be out of Lake County on election day. That began over four weeks ago.

“The last four weeks have made it seem like every day is election day,” Helander said. “There has been a tremendous amount of marketing for people to vote by mail,” she added referring to efforts by groups like the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the Illinois Republican Party to encourage the effort.

Helander also explained people who have not yet registered to vote can still do so at two locations in the county providing they vote immediately at the site. “Their vote will count just like they voted on election day,” she said.

People who want to take advantage of late registration can do so at the Lake County Clerk’s office, 18 North County Street, Waukegan, or at the Lake County Central Permit Facility, 500 Winchester Road, Libertyville.
