'Empty the Shelters' Adoption Event Planned Next Month Near Deerfield

RIVERWOODS, IL — If you're thinking about adopting a pet, local shelters will be incorporating reduced fees in May as part of the Bissell Pet Foundation's “Empty the Shelters” event. Participating shelters include Orphans of the Storm Animal Shelter, 2200 Riverwoods Road.

According to Bissell, shelters across the country are in crisis with overcrowding and other major obstacles. For the event, the company is sponsoring reduced adoption fees of $25 from May 2-8. More than 275 shelters in 45 states and Canada will participate in this lifesaving event to place deserving pets in loving homes.

“Shelters across the country are over capacity, and highly adoptable pets are at risk as we face one of the largest crises in recent years,” said Cathy Bissell, founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. “BISSELL Pet Foundation is calling on people to visit their community shelters during ‘Empty the Shelters’ to save a life through adoption. Without you, there is no tomorrow for these deserving pets.”

Bissell said the effort has helped more than 83,055 pets find homes in shelters throughout the country. During each nationwide event, Bissell sponsors reduced adoption fees for $25 or less.

The mission of Orphans of the Storm is "to take responsibility for each and every orphaned, abandoned, abused or neglected dog and cat which reaches our doors; to take them in and shelter them; to provide the best medical and physical care possible for them; to nurture them back to health if need be; and finally to place them into warm, loving, adoptive homes where they can enjoy the lives they deserve."
