Police Arrest Mark Ditka Again for DUI

Son of former Chicago Bears coach stopped a block from his home. This time the charges are a felony.

Mark Ditka, 49, of Deerfield, son of former Chicago Bears Coach Mike Ditka, was arrested Sunday on felony charges of driving under the influence and possession of a controlled substance, according to a story in the Chicago Tribune.

This is Ditka’ second arrest on DUI charges though the first was a misdemeanor, according to his attorney in the initial case, Robert Ritacca. Ditka was charged just over a year ago, according to a story on Patch at the time.

According to a report on CBS, Deerfield police found an unmarked bottle of hydrocodone pills in Ditka’s vehicle. He refused to take a breath test and was also charged with operating an uninsured motor vehicle and driving with a suspended license, according to the CBS report.

Police stopped Ditka at 3:45 a.m. Sunday morning for erratic driving near the intersection of Waukegan Road and Central Avenue near his home, according to the Tribune. He was given field sobriety tests and refused to take a breath test.He is free after posting a $25,000 bond.

Prosecutors approved charges Sunday and Ditka was taken to the Lake County Jail, according to a report in the Chicago Sun Times. He will appear in court Nov. 2.

In May, Lake County Judge Helen Rozenberg ruled the breath test Ditka took during his earlier arrest could not be used as evidence, according to a report on Patch.
