Prescribed Burn To Occur Near Deerfield High School

DEERFIELD, IL — A prescribed burn of natural areas near Deerfield High Schools will occur on Thursday, weather permitting. Township High School District 113 contracts with an ecological restoration company to perform this work every three to five years at both of its high schools, according to the school district's website.

A prescribed fire is a controlled event conducted with the permission of local fire authorities and implemented under Illinois EPA guidelines. Ecological restoration staff will remain on site until the burn has been completely extinguished.

Because of the unpredictability of spring weather, the restoration company notifies District 113 12 to 24 hours before the burn is conducted.
