Trio Indicted By Grand Jury Following July Home Invasion: Riverwoods PD

Three people had entered the victim's home and held the resident at bay while removing various valuables.

RIVERWOODS, IL — A grand jury has determined probable cause and formerly indicted three people following a home invasion last month. After the Lake County jury reviewed further evidence and investigative testimony, the trio were charged with multiple felonies in relation to the July 13 incident in the 400 block of Greenbriar Road, according to Riverwoods police.

Joshua M. Mitchell, 29, of the 8500 block of S. Yates Boulevard, Chicago, was charged with the following felonies:

  • home invasion/armed with a firearm
  • home invasion/causes injury
  • armed robbery/armed with a firearm
  • possession of a firearm by a repeat offender
  • residential burglary
  • aggravated discharge of a firearm
  • unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • aggravated unlawful restraint

Keshaun R. Handcox, 19, of the 8200 block of S. Kingston Avenue, Chicago, was charged with the following felonies:

  • home invasion/causes injury
  • armed robbery/armed with a firearm
  • residential burglary
  • aggravated discharge of a firearm
  • aggravated unlawful restraint

Aaliyah L. Baker, 20, of the 12900 block of S. May Street, Calumet Park, was charged with the following felonies:

  • home invasion/armed with a firearm
  • home invasion/causes injury
  • armed robbery/armed with a firearm
  • residential burglary
  • aggravated discharge of a firearm
  • aggravated unlawful restraint

Riverwoods police said Wednesday the investigation into the incident continues, and further charges may be sought at a later time.

At around 11:05 p.m. July 13, police were dispatched to a home near Blackthorn Road and Greenbriar Lane for a reported robbery. According to the preliminary investigation, three people had entered the victim's home and held the resident at bay while removing various valuables. During the incident, the victim was able to flee from the residence to a neighbor's home and call police.

A subsequent investigation led to the identification and apprehension of the three suspects. Police said this incident appears to be targeted towards this specific resident, and there is no further threat to the public.
