Village Of Deerfield: Green Energy Partnership Program Launches
Deerfield is the first community in Illinois to help local businesses source their power with renewable energy, according to the Village.

DEERFIELD, IL – The Village of Deerfield is pleased to announce the launch of a new and easy way for local businesses to migrate their facilities and operations to 100% renewable energy and save money. With the Green Energy Partnership Program, Deerfield becomes the first community in Illinois to help local businesses source their power with renewable energy.
The Green Energy Partnership Program provides local businesses with 100% green energy supply offers from top-ranked retail energy suppliers without any fees or commissions. The result is a one-stop energy sourcing solution that can save local businesses time and money.

This milestone program was officially launched on July 15, 2025, following planning and collaboration between the Village's Greenhouse Gas Reduction Working Group and local energy advisor ICCAN, which has advised Deerfield and surrounding communities on municipal aggregation and community solar programs since 2012. The Green Energy Partnership Program is designed to provide local businesses with an affordable and simple way to participate in the Village’s sustainability initiatives and help meet the goals of Deerfield's Climate Action Report.
“Deerfield is committed to taking innovative steps to help residents and local businesses take action to reduce their carbon footprint and support our local climate goals,” said Mayor Daniel C. Shapiro. “With the gradual transition to renewable energy, the Green Energy Partnership Program will provide the knowledge, resources and access that will empower our local businesses to move into our sustainable future and save money at the same time.”

With an annual energy use of approximately 151,171 megawatt hours (or 64% of the total energy consumption in the Village), commercial energy users in Deerfield can now make strides to reduce emissions by transitioning to renewable energy. If all commercial energy use in Deerfield were to transition to renewable energy through the Green Energy Partnership Program, Deerfield’s carbon emissions would be reduced by 85,218 metric tons per year, the equivalent of removing 31,079 cars from the road per year or enough electricity to power 22,854 homes per year, and will bring the Village closer to the goal of a 45% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
“From environmental and economic perspectives, this program is a major achievement for the Village,” said Mary Oppenheim, Village Trustee and Chairperson of the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Working Group. “As a growing community, we have a responsibility to help all energy users access the benefits that come from using more renewable energy. By launching the Green Energy Partnership Program, we’re moving closer to our goal of getting all electricity consumed in Deerfield to be sourced from renewable generation by 2030, which will help ensure a more sustainable future for everyone.”
The Green Energy Partnership Program is easy to use:
“By simplifying the bidding process and only working with the most responsible retail energy suppliers, the Green Energy Partnership Program will save consumers a lot of time and frustration to find the right renewable energy offer,” said Mark Pruitt, Principal at ICCAN. “And by providing transparent pricing without fees or commissions, Deerfield businesses will likely be able to move to 100% renewable energy at the same – or even lower – price as non-renewable energy from the grid.”
“A greener Deerfield requires collaborations like the Green Energy Partnership Program and a shared vision,” said Chasity Savage, Executive Director of the Deerfield-Bannockburn-Riverwoods Chamber of Commerce. “We are proud to collaborate with the Village, the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Working Group and ICCAN to help local businesses adopt renewable energy options, and we look forward to continuing to work together to support a greener community.”
