DEERFIELD, IL — It appears more jobs will be eliminated by Walgreens Boots Alliance as part of a recently announced goal to reduce costs by $1 billion. The Deerfield-based parent company of Walgreens will be laying off 5 percent of its corporate workforce, or 267 layoffs, according to a spokesperson. The impacted jobs will be at the Deerfield headquarters and not at any of the company's retail locations.

"We are grateful for the many contributions by the team members who will be leaving our company and we are committed to supporting them as much as possible during this transition," Marty Maloney, senior manager of media relations, said in a statement.

The latest layoffs come as Tim Wentworth, who became the new chief executive officer on Oct. 23, continues to oversee the direction of the company. Following the October release of its latest earnings report for the fourth quarter of 2023, WBA said it will be implementing cost-cutting measures to the tune of at least $1 billion.
