Update: Warriors Grab Sixth in Swim Sectional
Deerfield High School swimmers Brottman, Powell and Stitcher qualify in five events. Medley relay team makes final.

(Update Monday at 8:55 a.m.) Deerfield High School's girls' swim team finished sixth in a highly competitive Glenbrook South Sectional Saturday sending three individuals and a relay team to the State Meet Friday and Saturday in Evanston.
The Warriors compiled 106 points finishing behind Evanston with 128.5. Defending state champion New Trier won the event with 283.5.
In addition to Barbara Brottman and Ruby Powell returning to State in two events each, they will join Becca Rosenberg and Mallory Lynn in the 200-yard medley relay.

Coach John Sullivan indicated Marcy Kreda will also make the trip to State as a possible substitute on the relay.
(Earlier Saturday at 10:43 p.m.) Deerfield High School swimmers Barbara Brottman and Ruby Powell along with diver Christine Stitcher will return to the State Swim Meet after qualifying today at the Glenbrook South Sectional.

Brottman finished third in the 200-yard freestyle in1:53.20 and the 500 freestyle in 5:03.63 to reach the State Finals Friday and Saturday at Evanston. A year ago she earned the eighth-place medal in the 200 freestyle.

Powell placed second in the 100 backstroke in 57.46 and sixth in the 100 freestyle with a 53.05 clocking. She was 11th in the 100 backstroke in 2011.
Stitcher, who hopes to medal in the State Finals in diving as well as gymnastics in the winter and pole vaulting in the spring, took third in the Sectionals with 411.35 points.
The 200 medley relay team also earned a berth in the State Meet with a time of 1:49.73.
Athletes qualify for State by taking one of the top two spots in the Sectional Meet or reaching a pre set qualifying standard.
