Warriors Dominate CSL Tennis Tourney

Volleyball team takes second at Evanston Invitational. Baseball team tops Waukegan.

Warriors Star Performers:  The entire team of Jack Kasbeer, Noah Rosenblat, Tim Klabjan, Toby Ma, Andrew Pekin, Tony Crist, George Vanderkloot, Sam Sylvan, Lee Rather, Chris Casati and Zach Keeshin.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors compete in the Highland Park Sectional Friday and Saturday.

The Bottom Line:      Of the league tournament’s seven flights, Deerfield athletes won six and placed second in the other. Kasbeer and Rosenblat won singles titles while the tandems of Ma and Pekin, Crist and Vanderkloot, Sylvan and Ratner and Casati and Keeshin took doubles crowns. Klabjan earned a second place singles finish. The Warriors not only won the conference tournament, but went undefeated in dual meet competition to secure the overall Central Suburban League North Division title. 

Volleyball 

The Final Score:        Deerfield defeated Plainfield East, 25-22, 25-22; Evanston, 25-11, 25-21; Notre Dame, 25-14, 25-13; St. Charles North 25-22, 25-21 and lost to Loyola, 18-25, 25-23, 25-16. 

Warriors Star Performers:  Zach Hara had 37 kills over the five matches along with 10 digs and three aces. Jordan Fine contributed 96 assists, five kills and four aces while John Harlan had 32 kills, 23 digs and a pair of aces.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Eli Schmidt chipped in 18 digs, 17 kills and two aces while Adam Nadler helped out with 27 digs and five kills. Kenison Ready added 11 kills and six digs as Jake Brody had 40 digs and four aces. Grayson Peacock added seven kills and six digs with eight kills and a dig coming from Eric Slepian.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors entertain Libertyville at 6 p.m. today. 

The Bottom Line:      Deerfield won its three games in Friday’s pool competition before taking its Semifinal tilt against St. Charles North to move into the final against Loyola. The Warriors are now 27-5 for the season. 

Baseball 

The Final Score:        Deerfield 10, Waukegan 8 

Warriors Star Performer:    Jared Rubin collected three hits in four trips to the plate including a pair of home runs and four RBI.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Xander Horwitz was 2 – for – 3 at the plate with two RBI while Dillon Wallace went 3 – for – 5 and drove two runners home.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors entertain Glenbrook North at 4:45 p.m. today.

The Bottom Line:      Deerfield is now 17-8 for the season and 9-5 in the Central Suburban League North Division where it trails the league leading Spartans by a game.
