Update: Warriors Hold Fifth at State Tennis Tourney
Volleyball team wins Regional while boys' lacrosse squad takes playoff opener.
Update at 8:30 p.m.) Deerfield High School’s tennis team vaulted into fifth place in the State Tennis Tournament today in its quest for one of three trophies awarded at Hersey High School in Arlington Heights.
The Warriors finished the day with 17 team points in fifth place trailing Hinsdale Central (24), Lake Forest (22), New Trier (22) and Stevenson (21) winning nine of 12 matches played by two entrants in singles and two more in doubles.
Toby Ma and Jack Kasbeer led the way playing singles winning all three of their matches to advance to Friday’s fourth round. Should they win they move into Friday’s quarterfinal matches.

The doubles team of Noah Rosenblatt and Harrison Crist won their first two encounters before falling in the third round. They fell in their first consolation bracket match and now play Friday in the fourth consolation round. If they continue to win, they will earn a fifth place medal.
George Vanderkloot and Andrew Pekin dropped their opening match, won their first consolation contest and then fell in the next round to end their tournament.

(Earlier at 2:50 p.m.) Five players contributed multiple kills as the Deerfield High School volleyball team won the Lake Zurich Regional championship Wednesday to advance to the Antioch Sectional at 7:30 p.m. Friday against Barrington.
The boys’ lacrosse team won its playoff opener as well with a 13-2 victory over Montini Catholic while the tennis team currently sits in eighth place in the State Meet. Get real time results here.

The Final Score: Deerfield defeated Zion-Benton, 25-13 and 25-16.
Warriors Star Performers: Eli Schmidt had six kills, four digs and a block while Jordan Fine handed out 22 assists along with two aces, two digs and 2.5 blocks.
Other Notable Warrior Performances: John Harlan and Zach Hara had five kills each. Hara added six digs and a block while Harlan chipped in four digs and a block. Jacob Ferber had 10 digs and an assist while Adam Nadler compiled seven digs. Kenison Ready added four kills.
Who’s Next: The Warriors compete in the Sectional semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Friday against Barrington in Antioch.
The Bottom Line: Deerfield is now 30-6 for the season.

The Final Score: Deerfield 13, Montini Catholic 2
Warriors Star Performers: Jack Purdy and Henry Beaudoin each scored three goals while Evan Kedjidjian had 12 saves.
Other Notable Warrior Performances: Andrew Small and Ben Singer had a pair of goals while Mike Puccio, Herbie Marks and Jordan Hirsch scored one each.
Who’s Next: The Warriors entertain Marian Catholic at 6 p.m. Friday in the second round of the State Finals.
