Fire in Des Plaines hurts two and kills several cats
Several animals were found inside and outside the building

A fire on the 1600 block of E. Oakton Street in Des Plaines left two people injured and several cats dead on Friday morning, according to the Chicago Sun-Times and WLS. The fire, which occurred at a building containing a barber shop and apartments, was reported just after 7:30 a.m.
Fire crews arrived and quickly extinguished the fire. They found one person inside the structure and another outside. Both individuals were treated on-scene and transported to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
Firefighters also recovered four cats and one dog from the building. Several other animals were found outside, but multiple cats were found dead inside.
