Residents and neighbors watched as firefighters extinguished the blaze

A fire tore through 873 Beau Drive around 10:30 a.m. Friday morning, according to the Journal Online. One witness described hearing an explosion and seeing flames shooting out from windows and the garage of the home.

All residents of the home were able to escape without injury. Fire crews arrived and extinguished the fire in a few minutes, according to Deputy Fire Chief Peter Dyer. Twenty-three Des Plaines firefighters were present at the scene, along with crews from Mount Prospect and Elk Grove Township.

Firefighters also recovered a cat that was hiding in the garage of the burnt structure. Fire officials said there didn't appear to be any working smoke alarms in the home.
